Inside Clearing: Gaudium Gallery and the Poetics of Nature
At a time increasingly dominated by an excess of images and a growing distance from the natural world, Gaudium Gallery presents Clearing, a group exhibition bringing together the practices of Andrea Luzi, Annieo Klaas, Salvatore Fiorello, Sarah van Rossem, and Guo Qikai. The exhibition takes its title from the clearing itself: a space of suspension and revelation, where the density of the forest gives way to light and what was hidden can gradually emerge.

Rather than offering a conventional representation of nature, Clearing explores the natural world as a living presence capable of holding memory, emotion, instinct, and transformation. Across different artistic languages, the five artists move between forests, flowers, animals, landscapes, and more intimate inner territories, creating a dialogue between the visible and the unseen.
Andrea Luzi’s Lupercalia, for instance, approaches nature through its instinctive and ancestral dimension, transforming the painted gesture into a form of energy. Annieo Klaas turns instead toward subtler phenomena, evoking wind, light, and the vibration of the air as almost invisible forces. In Salvatore Fiorello’s work, nature becomes more intimate, associated with memory and stillness, while Sarah van Rossem and Guo Qikai contribute delicate visions in which small fragments of the living world become vessels for emotion.

The exhibition ultimately proposes a quieter understanding of beauty one based not on spectacle, but on attention. A flower, a tree, an animal, or a landscape can become a threshold through which to reconsider humanity’s relationship with the world around it. In this sense, Clearing does not seek to offer an escape from contemporary reality, but a different way of inhabiting it: slower, more attentive, and more conscious.
For Gaudium Gallery, the exhibition becomes a moment of pause within the visual noise of the present. Clearing invites the viewer to stop, look, and rediscover the silence that can exist within an image an inner space where nature is no longer simply observed, but experienced as something of which we remain a part.
