"A Quiet Measure of Light", the first solo exhibition in France devoted to the work of American artist James Howell (1935–2014). A major figure in abstraction, James Howell developed, over more than five decades, a body of work of remarkable rigor.

Throughout his career, James Howell explored the infinite variations contained within the most subtle nuances. His work is particularly renowned for his singular approach to gray, not as an absence of color, but as a territory rich in transformation, where light, atmosphere, and perception continually alter the pictorial surface. The exhibition brings together a selection of paintings, alongside works on paper, drawings and etchings, offering a rare overview of Howell’s disciplined and poetic approach.

The exhibition invites viewers to experience painting as a place of stillness, a space where light becomes matter, time becomes visible, and perception itself becomes the subject.
