Maria Andrievskay

“Through observing the sky, clouds and weather, nature has taught me to paint images that breathe.”
Maria Andrievskaya is a painter based between Cyprus and London. Her practice explores the inner landscape and painting as a form of sensing rather than seeing. Through colour, texture and the preparation of the surface, she approaches painting as an act of attention, guided by intuition, memory and bodily sensation.
Her process begins in the landscape of Cyprus, where she works with pigments collected from the land and responds to her immediate surroundings. The wind, scents, shifting clouds and movement of grass inform the marks made on location. The limitations of working outdoors create a space for the essential to emerge, allowing a direct connection with nature and its stories to shape the painting.
Back in the studio, she continues to layer the surface, responding to what came before. This ongoing conversation between artist and material can be uncertain and demanding, requiring patience, trust and vulnerability. Through this process, her paintings become immersive spaces shaped by shifting perceptions of light, atmosphere and time, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with their own inner experience.
Maria holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2026) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School (2024).
