Rosie Wall

Qualified Arts and Humanities Goldsmiths 2006
A practicing Abstract Expressionist Artist since first lockdown, 2020.
With a background in Secondary School Teaching and Theatre Practice, Physical Theatre – inter-relationship, and the ‘figurative’, influences my Art and Painting practice. I am interested in the corporeal, physical manifestation of movement patterns through space – I also explore the metaphoric and philosophical.
Having studied dance and sound notation (architectronictheatre language and sound movement) at Masters degree level - University of Kent 2012, I use the Miro style instinctivepsychic response practice in painting in response to stimulus iemovement and music. This informs ideas straight to canvas without pre-lim or planning, based purely on instinct. I am very drawn to capturing psychological states and feelings past and present - I operate at the furthest end of abstraction.
The 2026 Exhibition Act 3, Scene 2 featured 5ft x 6ft cotton/linen paintings as a hanging instillation pieces from the rafters of a Medieval Church in Sandwich Kent UK - I collaborated with Director of Deal Radio Marc Carey with incantational Mr C Universe New Age Music and Joanna Walton Kew - Textile Designer and Artist on the human condition/life/death mortality around the Global Climate and conflict crisis.
My next exhibitions in 2030 will be in Margate and Canterbury: “The Space Between us” exploring the impossibility of our human separateness and the Ernest quest for authentic human connection and understanding “Only Connect”.
My work can be considered autobiographical. My greatest influences are Arshile Gorky, Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miro, Chaim Soutine, De Kooning and Joan Mitchell as well as Karel Appel.
Contemporary influences are Australian Abstract Expressionists such as Elizabeth Cummings/Idris Murphy and Paul David Higgs the latter of whom has been a Mentor for 6 months in 2025. Also Expressionist Cecily Brown NYC.
